Major Atom team (boys born 1995 and later) competed in the 2007
Ontario Cup's Division 1 becoming the first CKaTT team to play in
that elite and much coveted Triple A circle. Only the top 8 among
this season's 88 Major Atom teams get to play in this division. Our
Major Atom was seeded sixth in that age group competing against
seven other teams that have dominated this division for years.
Even as a rookie
member of this small circle of topnotch teams, our Boys of 1995 made
quite an impact in the qualifying round when they dispatched all
their first round opponents with amazing ease. In their first game
on Friday night, they beat the second seeded and perennial Triple A
qualifier, Mississauga Monarchs, by 21 points (59-38). On Saturday morning,
they beat the third seed, St. David's Blues by 12 points (58-46) and came
back later that afternoon to dispatch the 7th seed Burlington
Panthers #1 by 12 points (63-51).
By finishing first
in their Pool, our Boys qualified for the semi-finals on Sunday
morning where they played the 4th seed Blessed Sacrament #1. With
the gold medal only a couple of games away, our boys played their hearts
out but ended up one goal short in a heartbreaker semi-finals loss
(69-68)
that all but shattered their hopes for a gold medal. Immediately
after that game and before our boys can catch up on their on their
breath, they played for the bronze medal against the the 5th seed Brampton Blue
Devils where our fatigue-laden and emotionally drained boys fought
valiantly but lost, 69-50.
Mississauga
Monarchs, the team our boys beat in the first round, won the gold
medal after beating Blessed Sacrament #1 (74-63) in the championship round.
The playoff
experience left our boys with high hopes and confidence for the next
OBA season knowing that they have competed and stood their grounds
against the best of the best in their division.

CKaTT's Director of Basketball Development, wrote: "It is a win
anyway you look at it since you have accomplished much in such a
short amount of time. You steam-rolled over everyone this year with
your team confidence and your run has been truly inspiring to other
teams still in their own runs to the Cup. Though you were just a
moment away from grasping the GOLD...it is still...a worthwhile and
recordable experience as you put it all together again for next
year."
