CKaTT MAJOR MIDGET SHINES IN SYRACUSE
March 29, 2007.
Syracuse, New York, USA. CKaTT's Major Midget
Division team (boys born 1991 and later) won second place in the AAU
2007 March Madness Tournament in Syracuse, New York loosing a hard
fought championship game by one point in the Under 16 Year Old
Division. The tournament was held last March 24 and 25, 2007.
CKaTT entered the
championship round after winning all of their three Pool games.
They beat the Salt City Shakers in their first game on Saturday
courtesy of a buzzer beater goal from Matthew Thomas shot from
almost three quarter of the court with just five seconds remaining
and the score tied. They had a hard fought second game on Saturday
afternoon against the number one seeded team in their pool, Fusion
White, before coasting to an easy win in their final pool game
against Eastside Basketball-A.
In the championship
game on Sunday afternoon against the local select team of Syracuse,
the battle in the court
was endless with both teams staying within striking
distance of each other for the win. The game started and ended with a very intense scoring
contest between the two pool division winners. The final score, 72-71, was the highest
scoring game on all the games. Even though CKaTT finished the game on the
loosing end, it sent a very positive note for our Boys of 1991.
During the team's first game,
one local spectator was overheard saying: "They are from Canada
and they only know to play hockey!”. Our Boys of 1991 has earned respect
when they did the unthinkable- playing in the championship game
and almost winning it all.
Team Manager, Gigi
Varilla, wrote: "Everybody enjoyed that weekend. The boys did
very very well and I am proud of this team."
Congratulation to
