Major Atom Boys (age 11 and 12) clinched another championship title
by winning the AAU National Power House tournament in Saginaw,
Michigan last Saturday. Their team effort, discipline, positive
attitude and determination paved the way for the team's unbeaten
record in the tournament.
On that same
weekend, the CKaTT Major Atom drove down to the University of
Michigan for another tournament where they played in a higher (age)
level group. CKaTT lost against Canton, Michigan by two points in
overtime, but the greater value in that tournament was the
experience and respect that our boys won from their American hosts
and they walked away with a much bigger and stronger heart. Members
of the team were Roenik Baello, Matthew Carating, Justin
Ramos-Taylor, Christian Hewitt, Cornell Mohamed, James Cruz, Ron
Rivera, Adrian Lopez-Williams Jr., Kean Lopez, Grant De Vera, and
Jamar Armonte Burnette. Team coaches are Ronald Baello, Arnold
Carating, and Paul Cruz.
Coach Glenn
Fernandez wrote: "This team (CKaTT Major Atom) is surely the next
team... to be among the other great teams that have passed through
the CKaTT walls."
While our Boys of
95 were earning their high-fives in Michigan, Coach Glenn's Major
Bantam team (Boys born 1993 and later) were harvesting another
silver medal in an OBA-sanctioned tournament in Oakville during that
same week-end.
Coach Glenn
promised to buy his silver medalists with a pizza "for their
valiant effort." He added: "The team has come together
very nicely somehow with all the challenges... and playing much
better than at the beginning of our season. They're a great bunch of
kids not to mention high flyers and future SUCCESS and perhaps the
elusive GOLD will finally come."
Members of the
CKATT Major Bantam Team are: Hussein Abdi, Fitzpatrick Akyeampong,
Steven Asirifi, Clarence Cabanela, Tyrone Divina, Griffin Fernandes,
Ty-Shaun Haye, Tyler Hayle, Chris Otchere, Jiko Santa Ana, Matthew
Steeves and Anthony Wilson. Team coaches are: Glenn Fernandes, Romy
Divina and Graydon Fernandes.
