Major Atom Boys (born 1996-1995) added another tournament
championship in their collection by winning the Brampton Blue
Devils' Classic Basketball Tournament last Sunday, December 10,
2006.
CKATT's team
effort, discipline and determination produced good results as the
team finished the tournament by winning all their five games by a
wide margin. They beat the host team Brampton Blue Devils during
their preliminary game on Friday night, 72-31. They then faced the
Lituanian Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon and beat them, 44-24.
They won their third game on Saturday evening against the Durham
Bulldogs, 63-33, to clinch first place in their Division pool.
In the semi-final
game on Sunday morning, they won against their OBA rival, the
Burlington Panthers, by a score of 67-36. That paved the way for a
Gold medal showdown against the Glouchester Wolverines on Sunday
afternoon which our boys dispatched with amazing ease, 63-33.
These week-end wins
extended the Major Atom's winning streak this season to 15 games.
They have yet to loose a game.
"After playing
15 games with relative ease this season, I think we have proven to
the OBA world that we have graduated from our Double A standing of
last year and that this year's team is a bona-fide Triple A team,"
Head Coach Ronald Baello said.
"In fact, we
requested to play in the Triple A division of the Brampton
tournament but our request was denied by the organizers," he
added.
Coach Glenn
Fernades wrote: "The Major Atom Division are definitely a product
of the TEAM BASKETBALL philosophy of training. At such a young age
I'm so surprised at their unselfishness towards each other on the
court. Their energy is focused to win as a team and they will
continue to do so. Their Coaches have found the team chemistry but
the players' buy-in for this concept of offense has brought them a
lot of success. Good Luck to their 2006-07 season!"
Members of the team
are Roenik Baello, Matthew Carating, Justin Ramos-Taylor, Christian
Hewitt, Cornell Mohamed, James Cruz, Ronald Rivera, Adrian
Lopez-Williams Jr. Christian Carolino, Kean Lopez, Grant De Vera,
and Jamar Armonte Burnette Team coaches are Ronald Baello, Arnold
Carating, and Paul Cruz. Cornell Mohamed was named the OBA Brampton
Classic tournament's MVP.
