September 5, 2006. Dolce
Enterprise's Toronto teams (powered by players from CKATT Basketball
and The Warriors organizations) won two championships and a
runner-up finish in the recently concluded North American Basketball
Association (NABA) 2006 Tournament in Glendale Heights,
Illinois.
Toronto's 1992-1993
Team won the Bantam Division while its Ladies team won the
championship in the division. Toronto's Junior team
(1990-1991) finished second in its division.
The Bantam team
beats the team from Brampton (FAAB) in its opening game on Saturday
morning. They beat Winnipeg in the second game later that
afternoon before loosing steam against New Jersey in their third
game of the day. The loss sent the Bantam team to the loser's
bracket against Winnipeg (who has beaten Detroit) on Sunday morning.
They beat Winnipeg for the second time and went on to beat Etobicoke
(Lakan) immediately thereafter to clinch a spot in the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals
on Sunday afternoon,
the Bantam Team won a cliff-hanger against New Jersey winning by one
point courtesy of the tournament's MVP Steven Cristobal's free throw with no time left on the
game
clock. New York (SIPAG) team meanwhile took the easy way to the
Bantam Finals by winning all their four games. In
the Finals, the tired but well motivated Toronto team beats
the well-rested New York team for Toronto's second championship
trophy.
Earlier in the
afternoon, Toronto's Ladies
team clinched the division's championship by beating Brampton in the
Finals. The Ladies team won all their games in the tournament.
Toronto's Junior
team (1991-1990) won all their games on Saturday beating Detroit and
Virginia. They beat New Jersey on Sunday morning but lost to the Scarborough team on Sunday afternoon and dropped down to the loser's
semi-finals bracket against Glendale Heights minutes after their
game against Scarborough. Toronto beats Glendale Heights to
move to the championship game against Scarborough in that same
afternoon. Playing four consecutive games on the same day however showed its toll as the fatigue-laden Toronto team
went down for the second time against a tough Scarborough team for a
respectable second place division finish. Scarborough was
represented in the tournament by CKATT's arch rival in the MPAA, the
Toronto Falcons.
Toronto's Tykes
(1996 and younger) beats their MPAA arch-rival Lakan (representing
Etobicoke) on their first game Saturday but lost to Glendale Heights
in their second game. The loss puts the Tykes division to the
loser's bracket against Etobicoke who has earlier beaten the team
from Jersey Shore. Toronto beats Etobicoke for the second time
on Saturday afternoon. The Tykes went down firing against the
much-taller team from New York (SIPAG) in their fourth and final
game on Sunday morning. Montreal won the Tykes Division championship.
Toronto's Peewee
team (1995-1994) and its Open Division teams did not make it to
Sunday's playoff games. The 1995 dominated Peewee team lost
their two games against the much bigger teams of Jersey Shore and
Montreal.
